Kansas Grown Grapes for your enjoyment.

Welcome to PrimeVine!

Where wine makers and grape lovers in Wichita and south central Kansas will soon find Kansas grown grapes for their winemaking projects or simply enjoying at your kitchen table
In spring of 2007 we planted our first vines.
Two varieties were chosen. Syrah / Shiraz for red wines and the Marquis variety, a seedless table grape that can be made into a nice white wine. As the new vines thrived in the Kansas sun we soon decided to plant more. So in spring 2008 we are planting more Syrah as well as Cabernet Sauvignon for the red wine lovers. For the white wine drinkers we are planting Riesling and Viognier.

At one point in its history, Kansas produced a sizeable amount of grapes and has a long history of grape growing and wine making. A timeline produced by the Kansas Department of Commerce shows that in 1901, despite Prohibition, over 5,000 acres of Kansas vineyards were still producing grapes. By 1933, although Prohibition ended, Kansas retained strict laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol and vineyards fell into neglect and eventual decline. In 1985, Kansas passed the Farm Winery Act establishing guidelines for wineries and by 2005, 13 licensed wineries in Kansas produced 50,000 gallons of wine from only 170 total acres of grapes.
